Debra Zelenak is Alchemy's May Artist of the Month
Debra's art favorite subject are birds whether they take on a realistic, iconic or whimsical form. Using the subtractive method of carving, she works in several mediums including wood, stone and bronze. One of the things she likes best about sculpture is it is one art form where interaction between the art & viewer can take place, touching is not forbidden.
Her "Worry Birds" are similar to prayer beads. This small carved bird is designed to be held and rubbed, the more the bird is rubbed the more the natural oil of your hands will smooth and beautify the wood.
